West Africa Stablecoin Summit 2025 – Abuja event on digital money innovationA Major Gathering for Stablecoin Innovation

The West Africa Stablecoin Summit (WASS) is set to take place in Abuja, Nigeria, on 19–20 November 2025. Hosted by the Africa Stablecoin Summit (ASS), the event will bring together policymakers, fintech innovators, investors, and industry leaders to explore how stablecoins can transform the region’s financial landscape. Stablecoins are digital currencies pegged to stable assets like the US dollar or gold, making them a secure choice for payments, remittances, and savings. Their potential is especially strong in West Africa, where cross-border trade, inflation, and limited banking access create demand for reliable and affordable financial tools.

Building on Nigeria’s Momentum

The Abuja summit follows the successful Nigeria Stablecoin Summit held in Lagos on 24 July 2025. That event, also organized by the Africa Stablecoin Summit, fostered dialogue between regulators and innovators. Highlights included pitch and essay competitions with $10,000 in prizes, rewarding solutions aimed at real-world adoption.

One of the key takeaways from the Lagos summit was a message from Emomotimi Agama, Director-General of Nigeria’s Securities and Exchange Commission. He affirmed that stablecoin firms are welcome in the country, provided they operate with appropriate oversight. This openness sets the stage for broader discussions at WASS in November.

What to Expect in Abuja

The West Africa Stablecoin Summit will address themes such as regulatory frameworks, cross-border interoperability, and strategies for integrating stablecoins into everyday transactions. Speakers will include government officials, startup founders, blockchain developers, and financial inclusion advocates. Workshops and networking sessions will give participants the chance to collaborate on practical solutions, from building efficient on- and off-ramps to designing user-friendly digital wallets. The event aims to bridge the gap between policy and technology, ensuring that stablecoins can deliver real value to individuals and businesses in West Africa.

Shaping the Region’s Financial Future

By convening in Abuja this November, WASS will be more than a technology conference, it will be a platform for action. If the energy from the July Nigeria summit carries forward, stablecoins could soon become as familiar as mobile money in the region. With the Africa Stablecoin Summit leading the initiative, and with stakeholders from across the public and private sectors participating, the West Africa Stablecoin Summit could mark a turning point for digital money in West Africa
